Winter Estate Sale Shopping Tips

While some estate sale companies slow down or take a break during the winter, at the Michael Taylor Company, we are proud to offer year-round shopping opportunities, both at Michael Taylor At Home and at on-site sales.  This season of occasionally snowy roads and freezing temperatures can bring with it a few challenges, so we wanted to share a few tips to help you make the most of your time at the sales.

  1. Dress warmly! This might be a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised at how many folks underestimate how cold it is, standing in a line outside to wait for an estate sale to open.  Arriving early to get the best deals is a good strategy, but be sure to bundle up! Some folks also take a bag or basket and use it to mark their place in line while they retreat to the warmth of their cars to wait…pretty smart, we say. Also, inexpensive hand-warmers from stores like Wal-Mart can help fingers and toes stay warm while you wait in line.
  2. Coffee. We always have coffee at our sales, but make sure to bring a travel mug or thermos so you can fuel up while you wait for the sale to open. IMG_5933
  3. Wear flat, closed-toed shoes. Again, this one seems like a no-brainer, but we can’t count the folks who wear flip flops or high heels to our sales. We do our best to carefully mark uneven patio steps or steep/slippery basement stairs, but in older homes, sometimes the footing can be challenging. We strongly encourage you to wear shoes that will help you stay steady on your feet, especially in the winter when ice and snow can be found on entrances and pathways.
  4. Park smart! Parking is always a challenge at estate sales. Residential neighborhoods aren’t always suited for a crowd of cars. We do the best we can to manage traffic, but the best strategy is to be a good neighbor wherever you are and to err on the side of caution. Be especially careful when parking in yards; winter weather often makes the ground soft and muddy, and it’s easy to get stuck.
  5. Follow us on Facebook.  We post snow day sale updates, info about discounts and time changes on our Michael Taylor Estate and Moving Sales Facebook page…be our “friend” at:

Come rain or shine, snow or ice…you just can’t stop us from holding great estate and moving sales! With a little extra planning/care, you can get some fantastic deals, so plan on coming out and seeing us soon. We’ve got two great sales in Nashville this week, lots of discounts and deals at Michael Taylor At Home and more awesome sales coming up this month!

Off-site Sales are On Point!

HCGH7669 (3)
Michael Taylor Estate and Moving Sales has been the leading estate liquidation company in Nashville for several years, and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve expanded our line-up of services to include off-site sales.
What is an “off-site sale”, you may ask? Great question! Sometimes, it’s simply not convenient for our clients to have their liquidation sale on their property. So, we now have the option to move the items that would be included in a sale to our 9,000 sq ft retail location, Michael Taylor At Home, and stage the sale on our retail property rather than in the client’s residence.
Our 9,000 sq ft warehouse has tons of great display space for off-site sales!
What’s great about shopping off-site sales? The deals are just as good as a regular sale, but you have the advantage of shopping in the comfort of our conveniently located retail store, with lots of parking, great lighting and longer hours. No fighting for a parking spot on crowded residential streets, or navigating through narrow hallways or multiple staircases…we think you’ll like the sound of that!
Who should hold an off-site sale? These sales are perfect for clients who are unable to hold a sale at their residence due to HOA restrictions, or for clients who have a residence that is unable to accomodate the volume of street parking that a sale generates. An off-site sale is also great for the client who wants to liquidate the contents of a large storage unit; the contents can easily be moved to our retail store. We also recommend off-site sales for clients who want to clear out their home in advance of putting it on the real estate market so that the home can be professionally staged and show more effectively. Off-site sales are also an efficient way to do some downsizing or to liquidate a collection without the inconvenience of having the sale in the residence.
Of course, we price, research, advertise and stage items in our off-site sales with the same knowledge, care and experience as our on-site sales.
Our spacious, well-lit gallery is the perfect place to display the items in your off-site sale!
Our spacious, well-lit gallery is the perfect place to display the items in your off-site sale!

We’ll be holding more off-site sales at Michael Taylor At Home this fall and winter and encourage you to add them to your regular estate sale shopping schedule. You’ll find them listed with our regular sales on And, if you or someone you know is interested in learning more about our off-site sale options, please call us a 615-545-2867. We’d love to hear from you!

Michael Taylor & Company
P.S. We’ve got a lot of exciting stuff happening through the end of the month. 4 estate sales this week (check our listings for more info!) and our Tim Liddle art show is here at Michael Taylor At Home through the end of the month.

Estate Jewelry: Whether your style is vintage or modern, deals abound!

One of the “hidden gems” (pun intended!) of estate sale shopping is fine and costume jewelry. When you buy new jewelry at a fine jewelry store, you are also paying for the retail markup, designer name, etc.

By buying used, you are getting a much better deal. We have a great selection of jewelry at most of our sales, but we also feature gorgeous, one-of-a-kind pieces at Michael Taylor At Home. All the jewelry in this blog post is available NOW at Michael Taylor At Home…and for this week only, it’s 30% off!

These opal rings are stunning! The ring on the left is $495, and the ring on the right is $525….and remember, take 30% off!

This antique carved chinoiserie necklace is a beautiful neutral accent piece. At $195 (less 30%!), it would be fabulous with boho chic or traditional outfits for fall.

Here’s a statement necklace for the modern gal! Designed by Margaret Ellis, a local jewelry designer, this unique piece is $250 (less 30%). So fun and different, right?

If you’re a Margaret Ellis fan/collector, or just someone who enjoys contemporary or locally-made jewelry, look no further! We’ve got a wide selection of earrings in the $50-$75 range. They make fabulous gifts…and keep in mind, the holidays will be here before you know it.

Speaking of holidays, here’s a ring that puts us in mind of Halloween. It’s a “poison ring” with a small chamber underneath the gem. Just $75! We’re not responsible for any trouble you get up to with this ring…just sayin’!

Isn’t this turquoise and 14K gold filigree ring gorgeous? Turquoise and gold is such a pretty combination. $295…but 30% off this week!

We have lots of fun, chunky statement necklaces in the $30 range. Gold tones are just the thing for fall…why not change up your look with a piece that’s really unique? (And at 30% off, it won’t break the bank!)

We also feature watches, including this Anne Klein gold and silver toned Swiss watch for $75.

The 30% off jewelry sale is this week only at Michael Taylor At Home; please come down and let manager Jerry show you our fabulous inventory of estate pieces at great prices!

My best,

Michael Taylor & Co.
