Fun with “Feud”…Get Vintage Movie Star Style at Michael Taylor At Home!

We have enjoyed the F/X network docu-drama television series, “Feud” so much and hated to see it end last night (Sun., 4/23). If you somehow missed it, it’s a fictionalized version of the long-time grudge match between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, arguably the most talented and beautiful actresses of their generation.  The series is full of fabulous outfits and mid-century glamour, and the costume and set design are as much fun to watch as Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange in their respective roles.  Want to keep the “Feud” fun going? How about adding some “Feud”-inspired items to your wardrobe or home? We’ve got some great examples of vintage glamour at Michael Taylor At Home…

You’d almost never catch the fabulous ladies of “Feud” without a cocktail in hand…so let us help you add some mid-century inspiration to your bar cart or tabletop. We have a beautiful and diverse selection of barware and glassware from the 1950’s-60’s that will give your cocktail hour at home some old Hollywood glam.

Ready to take your style game up a notch? Rock a turban like Joan, or a fabulous flowered chapeau like Bette…we’ve got great examples of both in our vintage ladies boutique.  While hats might not be everyday wear for most of us, events like Steeplechase and the Kentucky Derby are coming and are a fun excuse to wear a fabulous hat.

Do you know that the great Bette Davis reportedly smoked an average of 100 cigarettes/day until her death? Wow! While we aren’t fans of smoking, we like the style of vintage ashtrays, and think that they make great coasters for drinks!

Throughout the series, Joan wears an assortment of fabulous vintage loungewear. We’ve got a bunch of similar and VERY stylish mid-century pieces that will make you feel like a vintage movie star.

Here’s a photo of a young Bette Davis (note the cigarette!) in a flowing v-neck dress…and a similar style in our collection at Michael Taylor At Home. You’ll be ready for your close-up in this gorgeous gown!

And here’s a green dress that’s reminiscent of one that Jessica Lange wears as Joan Crawford in the series…such a pretty color! And don’t get us started on costume jewelry. We have THE best selection of vintage costume jewelry in Nashville, hands down.

Even if your life is more down-to-earth than Hollywood drama, you can always enjoy a little fun and glamour.  We’ve got lots of ideas, inspiration and deals at Michael Taylor At Home…drop by this week to see what’s new in store!

Also, we’re hiring part-time and full-time salespeople, sale setters and cashiers for spring and summer. $11/hr start, discounts on purchases, fun team atmosphere…it’s a great company to work for! Vintage Up-cycling Idea: Wedding Gowns

Wedding season is almost upon us, isn’t it? We love these celebrations of commitment, family and fun, and is there anything like the sight of a beautiful bride in a fancy, white lace wedding gown? So pretty!

We have a lovely selection of vintage and pre-worn bridal gowns in our Vintage Boutique, and while they would be perfect for upcoming brides just as they are, we think that these gowns also offer a lot of opportunity for creative re-use and upcycling into new and useful items. Gowns typically use a large amount of lace, fabrics like silk or satin and beaded trimmings that are great for crafts and home decor.

Here, a portion of lace  has been transformed into a gorgeous window covering. Wouldn’t this be a great use for the larger lace pieces that are often found on wedding dress trains? So pretty! Lace is quite expensive by the pieces, but taken from a vintage dress, the cost savings could be significant.

We love this one! Here, a wedding dress skirt has been transformed into a Christmas tree skirt. Isn’t that gorgeous and dramatic? With all-white ornaments, it would be a beautiful Victorian or French country look.

Here, bits of lace are decoupaged onto mason jars for a pretty shabby chic look. Wouldn’t these make great gifts?

A pillow is a project that’s easy enough for even novice sewers.

Slip some reclaimed wedding dress lace into an inexpensive frame for a pretty and romantic wall art display.

This idea is fun and easier than it looks…craft stores like Michael’s sell DIY jewelry kits…make a locket or necklace out of bits of wedding dress lace!

If you have a little girl in your life, she would probably love a fancy princess bride dress for her doll…old wedding gowns provide the perfect raw materials for this fun sewing project.

The Michael Taylor Co. Difference: Quality Staff, Quality Training

As Nashville’s leading estate and moving sale company, we take pride in setting the standard for liquidation sales here in Tennessee, and have for almost a decade. Our customers expect well-organized sales, professional workers, policies that benefit the client and customer alike, and a welcoming atmosphere.

We know that it is of the utmost importance to our clients that they receive the highest value for their estate items.  To ensure that our workers know what to look for, we hold in-house training sessions, conducted by Michael himself, in which workers learn how to research and accurately price items for the resale market.

This tradition of training sets the Michael Taylor Company apart from our competition in the estate and moving sale market. We also carefully screen our workers, making sure to conduct through background checks. Many of our workers have been with the company for years, and we have a strong culture of teamwork. Our clients can feel confident that their homes are in good hands with our company, and we work to ensure that our professional standards are met with every sale.
